When parents find out my children are homeschooled they ask a series of questions that go something like this:
- Is it legal?
- Are you glad you did it?
- Is it hard?
- Is it expensive?
- Where can I get a book about it?
Although there are plenty of blogs devoted to the daily goings on of homeschoolers, there really isn’t one source for all of the information a parent needs to actually homeschool.
In my local library there are over 100 books on homeschooling. I didn’t use any of them when I started homeschooling. I homeschooled because it’s what my kids needed and I gathered as much information as I could along the way, but those books were all about why you should homeschool and the decision to homeschool, not about the actual how-tos of homeschooling. For that, I had to learn on my own from searching the internet to asking lots of questions of other parents. No one homeschools the same way. No one.
So partly because I’m always asked if this book or that book is a good one to start with, I’ll be reviewing the books at my local library one by one. This is my personal opinion as an experienced homeschooler. But these are still my opinions.
I hope you enjoy the book reviews. Please feel free to comment and add your two cents.
